EastVillageRadio.com What is it with San Diego and smoked-out psychedelic beats? This husband and wife duo took advantage of the Dirty Drums Collective's arsenal of vintage equipment to record a double-sided single that's part Portishead, part Can, and basically everything I like. - DJ Still Life, Worldwide Smash Favorite track: Journey's End In Lovers Meeting.

about

// Hezus, pronounced He's • us //

Journeys End was originally recorded in 2008 at The Cave (old Dirty Drums studio) in National City CA. Special thanks to Mike Russell (MRR) & Adam Manella (ADM) for use of their previously owned collection of vintage microphones & analog recording gear. Also to David Barragan (DCB) for the use of the studio. Thanks to Mark Barber for jamming out that bassline on the spot and making it a sure fit for the song.

Covered (previously Simon Says) was originally recorded circa 2005 in a bedroom studio. Pieced together with sampled drums and sounds, I played fuzz bass along with the track. Later on, we replaced all samples with real instrumentation, adding recorder & analog synth. Thanks to Danny Barragan {DRB} for literally killing it on the the drum track in only 3 takes of ever hearing the song. Also to Dylan Mazali for adding guitar with great tone & texture, to finally make it a complete song. Also to Horizon & Rob Glickman for use of Park Chapel Studio for tracking drums & guitar.

To Richard Isabella (RSI), David Lampley (Psychopop) and Sumach (Gonja Sufi) for all the genuine support & inspiration along the way. To Six Ton Armor for support and funding in putting out our first release.

About the cover art (photo):

Photo cover art was not created in Photoshop, it was an original double exposure on the same roll of film taken about 1 year apart.

The first exposure was shot in April of 2010, about 1 month prior to our son Angelo's birth. That's us in the background, kneeling in The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch®, while an in-law shot the photo.

The second exposure was taken about 1 year later by another photographer (Rob Glickman) during our first family photo shoot up in Julian, CA with our then 8 month old son Angelo. At the time, we were unaware the photos had been merged by double exposure. But to our surprise, when we got the film back we discovered what happened.

The second image was accidentally shot on top of the 1st image, with the same roll of film (which apparently was never developed). At first glance, it was cool. Then at second thought, it was kind of a drag that both shots didn't come out as separate images. A year passed and we found the images again after moving to a new house. We needed some insert art for the 45 release and I didn't have time or any idea what to make for it. So I grabbed this photo, scanned it in, adjusted the color a bit, and dropped some basic text on top (yes, in Photoshop; you got me, I'm a fraud) then that was it. Made a b&w version for the background of the credits, it's zoomed in a bit more. Enjoy!
